Not Dead Yet: Your feedback, please.

Well, the breath hasn't left me, despite what the few of you who read this might think.   I've been in a cave for several months, not checking Livejournal and barely answering the phone.  Considering that I often work close to fifty hours a week at a brick-and-mortar bookstore, I've had to withdraw to focus on my writing.   Since my last post, I've received several rejections, but that's not what led me to completely rewrite CRUCIFER.

At Comicon in San Diego, I met with several wonderful editors, one of whom already had read the manuscript.   We spent hours together, drinking our livers to death, and the editor who had read it had many, many suggestions.   There were parts of the novel he loved, parts he thought were weak, but mostly he felt I needed to push back the story, focus on the world-building up front, and flesh out several characters.  I hadn't given readers an opportunity to care.  I mulled over the suggestions, swallowed my pride, and prepped for surgery.  Finally,  just hours ago, I finished the massive rewrite.  It was painful, blood was shed, favorite scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, and with all that the book grew by ten-thousand words.

I know that the book is so much stronger.

CRUCIFER, in the process, became a very different animal.  It now feels much more like a SF/Noir thriller, but that said, it's still filled with horror.   My future vision of LA became a central character, and full immersion in the city begins with page one.

Here's my humble request   I'm desperate for feedback.   It would mean so much to me if you would read a couple sample chapters and share your feedback.  You can read them here:  CRUCIFER

And a warning, if you don't want spoilers, skip the synopsis.   It's only posted as a calling card.

Thank you so much, Rob

Greetings Rob,

I completed reading of your sample chapters just today. Whereas I do have feedback, I won't likely have time to write such up for a bit. Please do let me know how best to deliver such once I have such prepared.

Best wishes,

Re: yo!

Steve-O, so good to hear from you! I would love your feedback. The new chapters are posted on my other blog, just click on the "writing exceprts" link. If you prefer I could email a sample to you. How goes the rewrite, have you heard back from that agent? If you ever want feedback on your writing, I'd love to see it too.

Re: yo!

hey Rob...sure you could send me a chapter or two. I did try reading online but it does kind of hurt the eyes. Plus, with a word attachment, I can do edits and make comments directly to the text. Emailing you...email me back!
